“India’s first film ‘Raja Harischandra’, a silent movie, will be screened in Patna as part of an event commemorating the
centenary year of the Indian cinema,”
Though cinema entered India in 1896 thanks to the efforts of Lumiere Brothers, Raja Harishchandra, an Indian cinema made by Dadasaheb Phalke was first screened at Bombay’s (now Mumbai’s) Coronation
Theatre on May 3, the Marathi biopic on Phalke.
Among others, a Films Division’s
documentary 100 Years of Indian Cinema and Posterics, a non-feature film on the history of posters in Indian cinema will also
be screened.

Posterics, a first documentary of its kind and 26-minute in duration, has already been selected for the Federation of Film Society
of India (FFSI). Cine Society Patna earlier called ‘Patna Film
Society’ was co-founded by Vijaya Muley, a documentary filmmaker, film historian, writer and researcher in the late 40s and early 50s time.
Her book “From Rajahs and Yogis to Gandhi and Beyond: India in International Cinema” won the Best Book award at the
58th National Film Awards in 2010.

Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir’: World’s Largest Hindu Temple to Come Up in Bihar

Angkor Wat temple ‘Bhumi-pujan’ Mar 5, 2012, 05.48AM IST India is all set to have the world’s largest Hindu temple.
Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir’ exactly like Angkor Vat, Cambodia.
Bhumi pooja for the construction of the temple will be conducted today, at the proposed site.

The decision to build the temple was declared public by the Bihar Mahavir Mandir Trust on Sunday.
The estimated cost of the temple is Rs 100 crores. It will have 5 stories and will have a height of 222 feet.

The location of the temple, Ismailpur village will be renamed Angkor Nagar.

“We will build a bigger temple in Bihar’s Vaishali district than the 12th century Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia.

The name of the temple will be ‘Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir’.

The site is blessed as Ram, Lakshman and Vishwamitra were welcomed here on their arrival by King Sumati of the Vaishali kingdom,” said Acharya Kishore Kunal, BMMT secretary and ex-IPS officer, adding that land valued at Rs 30 crore has been acquired for the temple.

“As far as the size of the main temple is concerned it will be the largest Hindu temple in the world with its ‘shikhar’ 222 ft. tall which no temple in the country or the world has,” said the Acharya.

The temple will have all divine heads of Hinduism- Shiva Parvathy, Ganesha, Skanda, 10 avataras of Vishnu, Surya, Radha and Krishna. “It will take up to five years to construct the temple and another five years to give finishing touches to it,” he said.

Angkor Wat temple is in Cambodia and was built by King Suryavarman in the 12th century. He is said to have ruled Cambodia from AD 1141-1152. Cambodia was known as Kambojadesam.

“We’ll make this temple the pride of the Hindu temples in the world and I’ve started it on the occasion of the 100th year of Bihar state’s foundation.”
The temple will be constructed on a sprawling 40-acre site in Vaishali district in north Bihar.
Mr Kunal said the god Ram was believed to have visited the site in the course of his journey and was welcomed by King Sumati of the Vaishali kingdom.
Mr Kunal said there was already a small temple to Ram in the area and the local villagers had readily agreed to the new project.
The trust has already built a number of temples and hospitals in Bihar.
“We’ll make this temple an icon for Bihar and the world as well as for grandeur and splendour,” Mr Kunal said.
